Classic Signs of a Heart Attack

Heart attacks can sneak up on you. Your best defense is knowledge about what to look for.

Take these signs seriously:

Sudden, intense pressure (as if an elephant were sitting on your chest), squeezing, fullness, tightness, burning or pain in the chest that lasts more than a few minutes.

Chest pain that travels to the arm, neck, jaw, inside arm, shoulder (left side more than right), upper abdomen (often mistaken for indigestion pain) or back between the shoulder blades. Pain may be continuous or may come and go.

Chest discomfort and feeling lightheaded.

Shortness of breath, dizziness

Fainting

Sweating

Nausea

Vomiting

Unexplained tiredness (mostly in women)

IF YOU HAVE THESE WARNINGS CALL 911 AND GO TO THE HOSPITAL IMMEDIATELY
