Patient Testimonials

Our patients are our personal advocates and say it best. Here, patients share personal stories of the care they received as cardiac patients and participants of the Freedom From Smoking Clinic. Read the patient stories and get further acquainted with the Heart Center of Greater Waterbury.

“ I had a near fatal heart attack on my birthday. I was taken to Waterbury Hospital and was admitted to the CVU. I had a heart cath and a double by-pass. If it were not for the excellent care of the nurses, the cardiologist, cardio-thoracic surgeon, and staff I would not have survived the "Widow Maker". I attend Cardiac Rehab classes as a follow up to my care. My family and I are very grateful for the Heart Center and the people who make it happen.”

“A personal friend had to have valve surgery repeated after having valve surgery 47 years ago at Yale. She was relieved to know that it could be done locally remembering her traumatic experience as an 11 year old away from home having heart surgery. Her experience at the Heart Center, although again was frightening, was a positive one, allowing family and friends to be near, aiding her healing.”

“I would highly recommend Elyse as an excellent facilitator as she demonstrated a high level of professionalism and personal concern for each one of us throughout the duration of the clinic.

I learned so much from her during the weeks that I attended only missing one session. She was articulate, caring and above all interesting in getting us to the goal we needed to reach. she believed in us! Several members have quit smoking since the clinic began and I must admit, have not totally reached my goal yet and intend to attend a second session it is is offered in the fall. ”

“We would like to express our deep appreciation for your competent and compassionate care of Harry during his recent hospitalization and surgery. Your cheerful manner and attentive presence brought considerable reassurance to us during a very anxious and stressful time in our lives. In addition to expressing our gratitiude to you, it is our hope that others facing a life-threatening situation will know of the wonderful resource that exists in the Heart Center of Greater Waterbury. Given the prevalance of heart disease, we are blessed to have a cardiovascular unit staffed with such competent and dedicated medical professionals in our community. Again, we thank you for the expert and excellent care we received from you during Harry's two-week hospitalization and surgery. While it wasn't the vacation we had planned on, we were still provided with pleasant memories and the promise of vacations to come! ”

“I'm back to work and in the pool and I'm 82! A few months ago, I had quadruple bypass surgery. Thanks to the Heart Center of Greater Waterbury, today I am back to work in my tailor shop, and back to swimming, rowing, and walking on the treadmill. After completing cardiac rehab, I returned to the YMCA in downtown Waterbury to swim, row and lift weights several times a week.”
Amodeo,
Waterbury, CT

“I'm back with the people who need me. Thinking about my family, my ministry, and everyone who depends on me is what kept me going throughout my recovery from double bypass surgery. Knowing that I had so much to get back to was my inspiration; the Heart Center of Greater Waterbury was my restoration. Now I’m feeling great, and am back to all the things in my life that matter most.”

“And after two heart attacks, I can still do both. From advanced surgical procedures to state-of-the-art rehabilitation facilities, the Heart Center of Greater Waterbury got me back to the business of living. Eight weeks after surgery, I was back to my work as a carpenter and feeling great. Now I’m ready to get back on the golf course, and even planning my annual hike up Mont Washington.”
Jim,
Waterbury, CT

“At 45 the last thing on my mind was my heart. I ate right, watched my weight, and walked every day, so when I felt a tingling in my arm and shortness of breath I never thought it could be my heart - but it was. The doctors and rehabilitation team at the Heart Center of Greater Waterbury changed my life. I'm back to work, back to walking with my friends and back to hiking with my daughter.”
